Set List

About the show:

Set List was originally the brainchild of veteran comedian, improviser and musician Dan Walmsley. Dan approached Karin with the idea in 2008 and they developed it into a show format with guitarist Brent Strachan, drummer Matt Mulcahy, bassist Kat Chish, rhythm guitarist Em Muiznieks and comedians Ben McKenzie and Andrew McClelland. Dan was on guitar and vocals and Karin was piano and vocals.

The premise of the show was simple, while the execution was tricky: the singer took audience suggestions for song titles, then improvised a tune and lyrics while the band played pre-prepared musical backing. Set List played at Trades Hall on three Saturday nights across the 2008 Melbourne Fringe Festival and the band prepared three different musical genres – folk, jazz and rock – for each night. The show played to reasonable houses but due to its complexity was never staged again.
